Double drive time: a simple local-moving example.

Understand how the trip between homes fits into your hourly moving bill.

What we count

On Movers-LA local household moves, the actual driving time between the pickup and delivery addresses is counted twice. Loading and unloading are counted separately as on-site work. We do not add travel from the office to the first address or back from the final address.

The phrase sounds more complicated than the calculation. A 20-minute drive becomes 40 billed minutes. A 30-minute drive becomes one billed hour. It is the time between the two locations that is doubled, not the entire moving job.

Walk through one example

Imagine a move with 2 hours of loading, 30 minutes between homes, and 1 hour of unloading. On-site work is 3 hours. The doubled drive is 1 hour. Together, they make 4 billed hours. At the 2-mover rate of $89/hour, the example is $356.

Fuel is included in that rate. There is no separate gas fee. Packing or specialty work would only be added according to the scope agreed for the move. The standard 3-hour minimum and 15-minute increments after it still apply.

Why the calculator uses an allowance

Before the exact addresses and moving time are known, a calculator cannot predict the drive. Ours uses distance bands with typical billed-drive allowances of 0.5, 1, or 1.75 hours. Those are planning assumptions, already doubled; do not double them again when reading the result.

Traffic and the actual route can differ from the planning band. The result also estimates the work at each home from size and access. That is why it is a range, not a final quote.

Ask about extra stops before booking

A move with a storage unit, an additional pickup, or more than one delivery needs a route-specific explanation. Provide every address and its access window. Ask how the drive calculation applies to that itinerary and have the treatment included in your pricing confirmation.

Keep the discussion practical: what work is included, which time is billable, what the minimum is, and what changes if the scope changes. Our office can explain the calculation for your move before you commit.
