Use this checklist to get the details out of your head and into a plan. Adjust the timing to your move and your building’s requirements.
As soon as you know you’re moving
- Choose a target move date and decide what you are taking.
- List larger furniture and any items needing special handling.
- Ask both buildings about access, elevators, and moving hours.
- Request a written estimate with a clear description of the work.
In the weeks before your move
- Confirm your moving arrangements and building reservations.
- Sort, donate, or sell items you no longer need.
- Pack less-used belongings and label boxes by destination room.
- Arrange utilities, address changes, and access to your new home.
The day before
- Keep essentials, documents, keys, chargers, and valuables with you.
- Make a plan for children and pets during loading and unloading.
- Check the agreed timing and your contact person.
- Clear pathways and separate anything that should stay behind.
On moving day
- Walk through the plan and highlight delicate or unusual items.
- Point out what stays and where belongings should go at the new home.
- Check rooms, cupboards, and storage spaces before leaving.
- Review the completed work and any paperwork before wrapping up.
