Make a small last-day kit
Before packing cupboards, set aside the things you will use until departure and shortly after arrival. A few cups, basic utensils, a small towel, and simple cleaning supplies can save you from reopening several boxes. Keep that kit clearly separate from the packed inventory.
Check pantry shelves and decide what is worth moving. Avoid mixing open liquids with fragile items. Discuss anything unusual with the moving company before packing it for transport.
Use manageable boxes
Keep dense items such as dishes or cookware in boxes you can handle comfortably. Protect fragile surfaces, separate pieces that could knock together, and fill empty space so the contents do not move freely. Do not depend on a fragile label to compensate for loose packing.
Label each box with the destination room and a short description. Mark boxes that should remain upright. Tell the crew which items need special attention and keep high-value or irreplaceable small belongings with you.
Decide where professional help will matter most
If most rooms are ready, kitchen and fragile-item packing can be a useful focused scope. At Movers-LA, the calculator adds a planning allowance of $160–$240 for that option. The actual scope depends on the contents and materials, which we confirm before booking.
Full packing is a different job. Our planning model adds 45–55% of estimated moving labor. Do not assume a kitchen allowance covers every cupboard, appliance, and room in the house. Photos and a short walkthrough help make the packing discussion specific.
Leave a clear path for moving day
Set closed boxes away from doorways and the route used for furniture. Identify appliances that need preparation or specialist disconnection, and arrange the appropriate help in advance. Standard moving assistance does not automatically cover technical installation work.
Before the last box leaves, check drawers, high shelves, and storage under the sink. Keep the first-night kitchen kit with your personal essentials or mark it to unload first. At the new home, direct boxes to the kitchen area before opening them so unpacking does not block the moving path.
